Update: the darkening of Wikipedia has aroused great attention from the media, corporations, associations and citizens. Some political figures have expressed their intention to table amendments that would place protected from the Wikipedia obligations and procedures provided by paragraph 29 of the proposed decree. The DDL is under discussion here (passed by the House on June 11, 2009, as amended by the Senate on 10 June 2010).
The entries will remain hidden until the discussion at the Chamber of Deputies, scheduled for the morning of October 6, 2011.
The right to use the Net as a source of knowledge and the place is and remains our priority.

Dear reader, dear reader,
at this time in Italian Wikipedia danger of being unable to continue providing that service over the years and that was useful to you now, as usual, you were looking for. The page you wanted to read and there is only hidden, but there is a risk that you will soon be forced to remove it really.
Over the past 10 years, Wikipedia has become part of the habits of millions of Internet users in search of a knowledge-neutral, free and above all free. A new, immense and free multilingual encyclopedia.
Today, unfortunately, the pillars of this project - neutrality, freedom, and verification of its contents - are likely to be severely compromised byparagraph 29 of the so-called DDL interceptions.
The Bill - Rules on Wiretapping etc.. so changed (see p. 24) , letter a) of paragraph 29 reads:
"For computer sites, including newspapers and magazines distributed by electronic means, the statements are published or corrections, within forty-eight hours of a request with the same demographic characteristics, the same methodology and the same access to the site's visibility news to which they refer. "
This legislative reform proposal, which the Italian Parliament is debating these days, provides, among other things, also to require all websites to publish, within 48 hours of the request without comment, a correction of any content that the applicant deems detrimental to its image.
Unfortunately, the evaluation of "cause injury" of such content must not be released to a third Judge and impartially, but only the opinion of the person allegedly injured.
So, according to paragraph 29, whoever feels offended by content on a blog, an online newspaper and most likely, even here on Wikipedia, can lay claim to the right - regardless of the veracity of the information deemed offensive - to request the introduction of a "correction", aimed to contradict and disprove these contents, even in spite of these sources.
In recent years, users of Wikipedia (remember again that Wikipedia does not have an editorial staff) were always available to discuss the case and to correct, if verified under third-party sources, any content deemed detrimental to the reputation of any person; all this without ever were not the prerogatives of neutrality and independence of the Project. In very rare cases in which it was not possible to find a solution, the entire page has been removed.
Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Article 27
"Everyone has the right to participate freely in cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.
Everyone has the right to protection of moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author. "
The obligation to publish our content in the denials provided in paragraph 29, even without being able to debate the same and regardless of any inspection, for Wikipedia is an unacceptable restriction of their freedom and independence: this limitation distorts the principles of 'Free Encyclopedia and paralyzes the horizontal mode of access and contribution, effectively putting an end to his existence as we have known up to now.
Let me be clear: none of us wants to question posed to safeguard the protection of the reputation, honor and image of each. Please note, however, that every Italian citizen is already protected in this regard Article 595 of the Penal Code, which punishes the crime of defamation.
With this release, we want to warn readers against the risks arising from the decision of individuals to leave the protection of their image and their own dignity by invading the sphere of legitimate interests of others. In such circumstances, the Net users would be inclined to stop dealing with certain topics or characters, if only to "no problems".
We want to continue to maintain a free encyclopedia and open to all. Our voice is your voice: Wikipedia is already neutral, because they neutralize it?
